This braillewriter has six conventional keys, a backspace key on the left side and a center space key. Paper rolls around the wooden roller inside a stationary drum. The frame is cast iron with black enamel finish and the inscription in gold lettering reads, "The Perkins Braillewriter, Perkins Institution, Watertown, Mass, Patent Pending."
